Linda Evangelista says ex Francois-Henri Pinault told her to 'terminate' pregnancy
Supermodel Linda Evangelista and ex-boyfriend Francois-Henri Pinault, a French business man who is now married to actress Salma Hayek, were in a New York City family courtroom on May 3 over child support for their five-year-old son Augustin James.
Evangelista is taking Pinault to court to ensure that he pays for child-rearing expenses. The model is reportedly requesting nearly $50,000 a month, a sum that includes expenses like armed bodyguards, a 24 hour nanny as well as other costs, according to the Associated Press.
Evangelista first revealed Pinault was the father of her child last year when she filed a request for child support in a New York court in August 2011. During Thursday's hearing, the model's lawyer claimed Pinault asked her to "terminate the pregnancy," according to E! News.
Evangelista, 46, is a former supermodel who donned the covers of hundreds of magazines during the 1980s and 1990s. Pinault, 49, is the chief executive of a company called PPR, which owns luxury brands like Gucci and Yves St. Laurent.
"She told me that if I didn't want to be involved in raising the kid or stay together and be parents together, she would understand, and she will take care of the kid," Pinault testified on Thursday. "I told her that I would recognize the baby ... and I will take my responsibility."
Previously, Evangelista paid all the expenses for her son's life. However, when her contract for L'Oreal ended last year, her estimated $1.8 million-a-year salary took a financial hit.
Evangelista's lawyer, William Beslow, told the court on Thursday, "It became necessary for her to go to the bullpen and ask the father for help." He added his client was "not looking to piggyback the lifestyle of Mr. Pinault."
Pinault's lawyer made mention of Eveangelista's previously reported request of $46,000 a month from Pinault for child rearing expenses. The mention of the sum prompted Evangelista to groan, according to the report, and Beslow claimed she was not looking for a specific amount but the figure previously mentioned was around what she has spent on the child monthly.
Pinault claimed during testimony that the two only spent about seven days total together when they dated in late 2005 to early 2006. The business man earns around $4 million a year from several of his family's companies. The family's net worth is at $13 billion, according to the wire service.
Pinault said that he found Evangelista's initial request for child support unreasonable and tried to work out a solution with a counteroffer in 2007. He claims he got no response until she filed her lawsuit in 2011.
Pinault has three confirmed children, a 4-year-old daughter with Hayek, 45, and a son and daughter from a previous first marriage.
Pinault met Hayek in Venice in May of 2006, months after Evangelista's son was conceived, and in March 2007, the two announced that the actress was pregnant and that they were engaged. They welcomed their daughter, Valentina Paloma, on September 21 of that year.
In July 2008, the two announced they had split and called off their engagement. They reconciled several months later and married on Feb. 14, 2009 - Valentine's Day - in Paris. They had a second, larger wedding on April 25 of that year in Venice, where they met.
