Lil Wayne is set to headline MTV's first televised rap unplugged concert in 10 years in June, months after he was released from prison.

The hip hop artist spent his eight months behind bars last year for a 2007 felony gun conviction. Despite his legal troubles, Lil Wayne, has maintained a giant fan base and recently toured the United States.

His MTV concert, set to debut on June 12, is the network's first unplugged production by a rapper since Jay-Z's 2001 special. Lil Wayne is set to perform acoustic versions of some of his hits as well as new songs.

During his time in prison, Lil Wayne celebrated his 28th birthday and released his eighth studio album, "I Am Not a Human Being".

On June 21, Lil Wayne plans to release his ninth studio album, "Tha Carter IV." He performs one of the record's tracks, "Nightmares of the Bottom" on his MTV unplugged special, which was recorded in Los Angeles on Thursday, May 12, according to the Los Angeles Times.

"A few months ago I was in a dark place that I don't like to really shed light on," the newspaper quoted Lil Wayne as saying. "Everyone always asks, 'How was it?' I figured I'd find a way to answer that question."
