In March, the rapper, whose real name is Dwayne Carter, began serving time for a 2007 felony gun conviction made after a semi-automatic pistol was found on his tour bus. He is due to be released in early November.

"My family, I like to do things for him for his birthday, you hear me?" rapper Birdman told MTV News. "This the first time we not gonna get a chance to do that. We pop bottles for him while he's gone."

Lil Wayne's website, which features a countdown timer set to the time of the rapper's release, contained birthday greetings from fans from all over the world.

His new album, which was released online and is set to hit stores on October 12, contains tracks such as "Gonorrhea" and "Right Above It", which feature rapper Drake and "What's Wrong With Them",  which contains vocals by Nicki Minaj.

MTV News says that meanwhile, Lil Wayne is working as a counselor to fellow inmates on suicide watch, adding that at  50 cents an hour, it is the highest paying job in jail.

Lil Wayne isn't the only celebrity to have spent time behind bars. Check out photos of other stars who have been to jail:
