Leighton Meester sues mother, says she spent brother's money on plastic surgery
Leighton Meester, who plays New York socialite Blair Waldorf on the CW show "Gossip Girl," recently sued her mother, claiming she used funds she had sent to help her brother on Botox, plastic surgery and hair extensions for herself.
Leighton Meester, 25, says in the lawsuit, filed on July 22 at a Los Angeles court, that her mother and former manager, Constance, refuses to work and expects the actress to support her financially. Constance Meester, 54, has not commented on the matter.
The two have had a strained relationship and made headlines in 2008, a year after "Gossip Girl" premiered, when it was revealed that Constance Meester had given birth to her daughter while serving time in a Texas federal prison for smuggling marijuana.
Leighton Meester says in her lawsuit that she paid her mother about $7,500 a month since 2009 to cover school and medical expenses, namely those of her brother Alexander, nicknamed Lex. His ailment is not detailed but the actress says he had at one point undergone brain surgery.
Leighton Meester says in the lawsuit that she believes her mother has been using the money "to pay for cosmetic procedures for herself, including plastic surgery on her face and stomach, Botox injections for her face, fillers for her hands and hair extensions."
She also accuses her of having "an alcohol and substance abuse problem that is clouding her judgment" and alleges that she takes her brother's prescribed pain medication.
The actress says she stopped sending money to her mother but that she plans to continue to fund Lex Meester's health insurance and school expenses. Leighton Meester also denied having made any verbal agreement to provide funds for her mother.
Aside from "Gossip Girl," Leighton Meester also appears alongside Gwyneth Paltrow in the 2011 film "Country Strong" and opposite Selena Gomez in the recently-released romantic comedy "Monte Carlo."
Leighton Meester has said she is unsure if she will continue to star in "Gossip Girl" in two years, when her contract expires.
Meanwhile, the actress, who is also a pop singer with the band Check In The Dark, is working on her debut album. Check out a video of her recording and performing music below.
