LeAnn Rimes talks candidly about her affair with Eddie Cibrian

In the new issue of Shape magazine, LeAnn Rimes opens up about the problems behind her marriage and her decision to cheat with Eddie Cibrian.

"I think any relationship is hard to get out of, and I don't think the way I did it was right," she says in the October issue of the magazine, which goes on sale September 20.

"It wasn't a fulfilling marriage for either of us," the singer reveals about her eight-year relationship with ex-husband Dean Sheremet. "As we got older, we grew apart."

The couple finalized their divorce in June and Cibrian moved in with Rimes in Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley over the summer. The two met while filming the 2009 Lifetime movie Northern Lights.

Cibrian is still in the process of finalizing his divorce. The actor shares custody of his children Mason, 7 and Jake, 3 with model Brandi Glanville. He had filed the papers last year amid reports Rimes and Cibrian were having an affair.

"I understand why people are disappointed in me, especially since I grew up as America's sweetheart," Rimes said about the public reaction to their affair. "After going through this," the singer said, "I know I can face anything."

Rimes recently Tweeted about her cover saying, Thank you to everyone who has left so many nice comments about my Shape cover. I am really proud of it and so appreciate of all the support. She added, And no matter how the media may spin my words, from the bottom of my heart, I want to thank everyone who has been so kind and understanding through this journey."
