LeAnn Rimes talks Eddie Cibrian affair, her new single 'Borrowed'
LeAnn Rimes is opening up about her highly-publicized affair with actor Eddie Cibrian - through song.
Rimes, 30, recently debuted a new single, "Borrowed," which is off of her 14th studio album "Spitfire." Through the mellow song's lyrics, the songstress opens up about she and Cibrian's forbidden love, which blossomed while the pair were still involved with other people.
"I carried that song and that title around with me for about eight months," Rimes told Extra on December 20. "I was afraid to write it because I knew I had to be incredibly personal...When I did, it was through a lot of tears."
The song features lyrics that seem to describe her feelings about being with a man that she knew was taken, with verses like, "I wanna hold out, but I hold on, even though I know it's wrong / Cause I don't want to give you back, you're the best I ever had - but you're borrowed."
Another lyric reads, "I know you're not mine only borrowed / Cause you already belong to her / Least you said so."
Rimes admitted to cheating on her ex-husband Dean Sheremet with Cibrian, who she met while filming the 2009 Lifetime movie "Northern Lights," and told ABC in November 2010 that she didn't regret her decision.
The country crooner gushed that Cibrian is "always so supportive," but explained why she was still apprehensive to include him in the song.
"I actually was scared to put him in the song, because it does talk about how we both hurt each other," she explained to the outlet. "There was a moment where we did have some hurt between the two of us that we had to accept and get over and move forward."
She was married to Sheremet for roughly eight years, and they shared no children. Rimes congratulated him on his own engagement in November 2010.
Cibrian moved in with Rimes over the summer of 2010, and that October, he finalized his own divorce from model Brandi Glanville, the mother of his two sons.
In April 2011, Rimes and Cibrian wed in an intimate ceremony in California. The starlet Tweeted the news on April 23.
"Eddie and I are overwhelmed by the amount of lovely well wishes. We are blessed and.... I'm Mrs. Cibrian!!!!! So wonderful to wake up as husband and wife. Love to all of you." she Tweeted.
Rimes' album, "Spitfire," is expected to hit stores April 30, 2013. Listen to her single "Borrowed" below.
