Larry the Cable Guy of 'Cars 2' jokes about his first time, talks about kids
Larry the Cable Guy, who voices the lovable but simple-minded tow truck Mater in "Cars 2," appears to have some very lucky kids.
The comedian brought his wife Cara and son, Wyatt, 4, and daughter Reagan, 3, to the Disney-Pixar film's premiere in Los Angeles earlier this month and said that he is already thinking about what vehicle he will get for them when they turn 16.
"I'll probably buy them a new car," he told OnTheRedCarpet.com. "I always thought that was a strange thing about parenting. You know, your parents spend the first 18 years of your life worrying about you and keeping you safe, and then when they get you a car they get you one with 200,000 miles on it and bad breaks, you know what I mean?"
It doesn't make any sense, so I'm going to give them a good car," he said.
The comedian, who is known for his particular style of "Redneck observational comedy", also talked about his own first vehicle.
"My first car was a 1969 Formula Firebird with a double hood scoops and glass packs (muffler replacement)," he said. "It was the last of the 400 (horsepower) engines - it was awesome. It was metallic blue."
Of course, the comedian couldn't resist making a joke about his early vehicular experiences.
"First time I made love was in the back of my parent's car, it was a Mercury ... and they could barely keep their eyes on the road," Larry the Cable Guy said.
"Cars 2" follows Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) and his buddy Mater head (Larry the Cable Guy) as they go overseas to compete in the World Grand Prix race. But trouble finds the cars when Mater gets caught up in some international espionage.
Larry the Cable Guy, whose real name is Daniel Lawrence Whitney, is known as one of the comedians on the "Blue Collar Comedy Tour," which also features Bill Engvall, Ron White, and Jeff Foxworthy.
Larry the Cable Guy has released seven comedy albums and has appeared in films like "Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector," "Delta Farce," and "Witless Protection."
The comedian also starred in the History channel series "Only in America with Larry the Cable Guy," which premiered on February 8.
"Cars 2" was released on Friday, June 24, 2011. Watch the trailer below.
