Larry Hagman, who played oil baron J.R. Ewing on the 1980s series "Dallas," recently auctioned off dozens of his personal valuables, including several of his famed cowboy hats.

The 79-year-old star also appeared in person at the auction, which took place on Saturday, June 4 in Beverly Hills.

He told OnTheRedCarpet.com several days earlier, appearing alongside Linda Gray, who played Hagman's character's wife Sue Ellen Ewing on "Dallas:" "I've collected a lot of things in my life - about 60 years of collection. I don't have any place to store it anymore. Why store something like that? Share it with other people - that's the fun thing."

"There's so much stuff in there," he added. "Each one's got a story."

His items sold for more than $500,000. They included a collection of some 20 "Dallas" season 5 scripts, which had a final bid of $2,944. Several of Hagman's cowboy hats sold for between $750 and $2,432.

"Dallas" ran between 1978 and 1991 and is being rebooted as a new TNT pilot, which features Hagman, Gray and Patrick Duffy, who played Bobby Ewing on the original show, as well as "Desperate Housewives" stars Brenda Strong, Jesse Metcalfe and Josh Henderson.

Hagman had guest starred on "Desperate Housewives" earlier this year.

The new "Dallas" project follows J.R. Ewing's son John Ross, played by Henderson, and the adopted son of Bobby and Pam Ewing, Christopher.

The Fast and the Furious" star Jordana Brewster will play Elena, a woman who becomes involved in a love triangle with John and Christopher.
