Lady Gaga says she doesn't care about money
Lady Gaga, one of the richest celebrities in the world, says she does not care about money.
The 25-year-old pop star earned about $90 million over the past year, according to Forbes, which said she made her money from a world tour, radio play of her songs, recorded music sales and endorsement deals.
Lady Gaga, a New York native whose real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, released her second studio album "Born This Way" in May and is planning a 2012 tour.
She told Howard Stern on his R-rated Sirius XM satellite radio show on Monday, July 18 that free downloads of her music do not concern her.
"I actually love it," she said. "Because I just really don't give a (expletive) about money at all. I just came from my apartment in Brooklyn that's smaller than this studio."
The singer, who appeared at the shock jock's studio in a leather top, fishnet stockings and black platform heels, said she does not spend much, saying: "I bought my dad a Rolls Royce and I paid for his heart surgery - that's it. The Monster Ball was pretty expensive and the next show will be expensive and I'll pay for it."
"At the end of the day it's not about the payday for me," she later added. "I used to be a waitress - I know what it's like to mop the floors." (Check out other past jobs held by celebrities.)
In March, two weeks after the tsunami and earthquake stuck Japan, the gaming company Zynga Inc., creator of the popular Facebook game Farmville, announced that Lady Gaga donated $1.5 million through the sales of her Japan Prayer Bracelets to the company's fundraising initiative with Save the Children as well as to the American Red Cross to support relief efforts in Japan.
Several months later, in June, the singer was sued last month over sales of her "We Pray for Japan" wristbands.
A law firm is accusing her and affiliated companies of not donating all the proceeds to relief efforts made after the deadly earthquake and tsunami that struck the country in March. Lady Gaga has not commented about the matter.Check out excerpts of Lady Gaga's interview with Howard Stern below.
