L.A. Reid reportedly signs on for second season of 'The X Factor'

After Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger and Steve Jones got the boot from the second season of "The X Factor" reports surface that there will be one more familiar face in the new season other than creator Simon Cowell: L.A. Reid. The Epic Records chairman, who was a judge during the first season, has reportedly signed on for season 2 of the reality competition show, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Reid and the Fox network, which airs the show, have not commented on the reports. According to the report, Reid signed on for season 2 on February 3, just days after Abdul, Scherzinger and Jones were dropped. Prior to joining "The X Factor," Reid served as chairman of Island Def Jam Music Group and was responsible for signing Justin Bieber to a 360 deal in 2008 and brought Usher to success in 1992. Reid stepped down shortly after it was announced he joined "The X Factor." He also launched the careers of Jay-Z, Mariah Carey, Kanye West, The Killers, Bon Jovi, Pink, Jennifer Lopez and Rihanna. Reid became the Chairman and CEO of Epic Records in July 2011. Simon Cowell had launched a U.S. version of the singing contest show last year, following the success of its British counterpart and after leaving his longtime job on "American Idol." The series, which aired on Wednesday and Thursdays, often earned the highest ratings in its time slot but also occasionally lost to the CBS comedy "The Big Bang Theory." It also did not fetch the same ratings as "American Idol," one of the most popular primetime shows. The U.S. series had seen the shuffling of cast members even before its debut on Sept. 21, 2011. During early tapings, UK pop singer Cheryl Cole, who sports a thick, northern English accent, had served a judge but later departed the show. Scherzinger, who was previously named as a co-host alongside Jones, was later made a judge in Cole's place. It was announced in November that "The X Factor" was renewed for a second season on FOX.
