Kym Johnson to perform on 'Dancing With The Stars' despite injury
Kym Johnson will dance with partner Hines Ward on Monday's episode of "Dancing With The Stars" after suffering a neck injury last week.
Johnson, a 34-year-old Australian pro-dancer, and the Pittsburgh Steelers football player are one of four finalists and are frontrunners in the 12th season of ABC's ballroom dancing show, having earned some of the highest scores from the judges during last week's performances (read a recap of last weeks' episode of "Dancing With The Stars").
Johnson was admitted to a Los Angeles on Friday, May 13, after falling and injuring her neck during a practice, her spokesperson had told OnTheRedCarpet.com, adding that medical staff later told her she could resume rehearsals.
"Man, Kym is a SOLDIER!" Ward said on his Facebook page. "She's dancing in her neck brace and will not quit! I want to do my best for her because she's busted her tail to get me where I am today. To me, she is one of us and exemplifies the Steeler way."
"When we get thru this week because of your VOTES, we intend to bring home the Mirror Ball!" Ward added.
Johnson said on her Twitter page on Saturday that she was feeling better and that her mother had come to visit her.
"I feel so incredibly blessed and lucky not to be injured worse and to have the most caring sweet partner in Hines," Johnson Tweeted on Sunday.
Four celebrities are left on "Dancing With The Stars" - "Karate Kid" actor Ralph Macchio, actress Kirstie Alley and Disney Channel star Chelsea Kane.
Earlier this month, Macchio suffered from a ruptured cyst in his knee. He said on his Twitter page on Sunday: "Thanks all for asking - yes! leg is better!"
In the past professional dancers have been replaced when unable to perform with their stars.
In 2009, during season 9, both Derek Hough and Lacey Schwimmer were unable to compete because of an illness and Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Anna Trebunskaya stepped in to dance for the week with their partners Joanna Krupa and Mark Dacascos.
In 2008, during season 7, Julianne Hough was hospitalized with appendicitis and Edyta Sliwinska stepped in to take her place and dance with Cody Linley.
