Kristen Wiig shows skin on sexy Marie Claire cover, talks 'SNL' (Photo)
Kristen Wiig reveals some serious cleavage on the cover of Marie Claire's August 2012 issue, which features an interview with the actress, who talks about her "emotional" departure from "Saturday Night Live."
The 38-year-old native of central New York State has for years been praised for her comedic chops, having worked on the NBC sketch series as an actress and writer for seven seasons. But it was the success of the R-rated 2011 movie "Bridesmaids" that launched her to international fame and helped cement her new status - as a sex symbol.
On the Marie Claire cover, she sports a white Tom Ford jacket and not much else covering her chest in the picture. Men's magazine GQ named her "Bro of the Year" and also features her in a racy photo spread in its "Men of the Year 2011" issue. Animal rights group PETA named her its sexiest female celebrity of 2011.
Wiig joined "SNL" in 2005, about five years after she began acting on screen. "Bridesmaids," which saw her play a woman involved in the chaos of planning her best friend's wedding, marked her breakout film and she also earned an Oscar nomination for co-writing its script.
The movie was released on May 13, 2011. A year later, she filmed the finale of the 37th season of "SNL." It marked her last appearance as a cast member on the series.
"I know a lot of people probably assume, 'Oh, she's leaving because she is going to be doing movies now and things like that,' which I will be," she told Marie Claire. "But I just always knew it was going to be seven and that was it. I think maybe if I were 22, I could see myself staying a little bit, but it just felt like the right time."
"It was very emotional," she added. "I just wanted to get through it without breaking down in every sketch. Because nothing says comedy like breaking down."
On her final "SNL" episode, Wigg danced with her fellow cast members, host Mick Jagger and executive producer Lorne Michaels to the tunes of Rolling Stones classics "She's a Rainbow" and "Ruby Tuesday."
Wiig, who is currently dating another Rocker - Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti - told Marie Claire that she is happier than ever and feels "very lucky." When asked why, she said: "Where I am now. Who he is. Those are the two big ones."
Wiig apparently partied a little too hard with her co-starsafter filming her final "SNL" episode. The actress found out the next morning that she had accidentally chipped her front tooth, according to Marie Claire.
Wiig was a cast member in the theatre troupe The Groundlings before she joined "SNL." She had always hoped to act on television.
"I wanted to be Justine Bateman," she told Marie Claire, naming an actress who played Michael J. Fox's character's sister on the 1980s sitcom "Family Ties." "She was so cool. Or Lisa Bonet. "I just didn't think it was an option, coming from a town where people don't pack their bags and move out to Hollywood."
Bonet played Bill Cosby's character's daughter on the 1980s sitcom "The Cosby Show." Bateman's brother, Jason, starred with Wiig in the 2009 film "Extract."
Wiig can be seen next in the comedy movie "Imogene." The film is about a playwright who stages a suicide to try and win back her ex and ends up in the custody of her gambling-addict mother. The movie also stars "Glee" actor Darren Criss, Matt Dillon, Annette Bening and Natasha Lyonne. Its release date has not yet been announced.Correction: In the July 12 story above, OnTheRedCarpet.com erroneously reported the date that Wiig filmed her final episode of "SNL." This version of the article has been updated to reflect the correction.
