Kris Humphries on Kim Kardashian marriage: It was real to me

02/06/2012 by Olivia Allin

Kris Humphries claimed "fraud" in his annulment filing for his 72-day marriage to Kim Kardashian, but the basketball player says the marriage was authentic to him.

"To me it was real," Humphries told Access Hollywood. "I would never go through something or do something that wasn't real or I didn't believe in, so I can really only speak for myself in terms of that."

Humphries also fought back at charges that the marriage had been a "business decision," since the relationship certainly added to his visibility, even if it wasn't always for the right reasons.

"In my life, there's been opportunities to make money and I don't believe in what it is," he said. "When I was kid growing up, it was always like, 'Man, one day I want to have this or that,' and you work so hard and that's your goal, but like, when you get all those things that you wanted, those things don't make you happy. Money only has so much - it doesn't rule my life so I would never do anything strictly for money."

In December, Humphries was named the No. 1 most disliked NBA player in a survey carried out by Nielsen and E-Poll Market Research, a California firm that tracks perceptions of athletes and other celebrities.

Despite this negative publicity, Humphries said that basketball is his therapy and credited his family's support and faith in God for his positive outlook.

While he's "not dating anyone right now," Humphries joked, "My girlfriend is Spalding."

After Kardashian began dating Humphries in late 2010, he became a part of her public life. Photographs from their separate bachelor and bachelorette parties in Las Vegas were released to the media.

Humphries and Kardashian also starred in her newest E! reality show, "Kourtney and Kim Take New York," which returned for a season in late November and saw a ratings boost. The series depicts their lives as newlyweds, living with her sister and her boyfriend. Humphries and Kardashian are constantly arguing on the show.

In November, the basketball player filed an annulment of his 72-day marriage to Kim Kardashian, citing fraud. The documents also stated that Humphries would seek a legal separation instead of a divorce, if his annulment is denied.

Earlier this month, Humphries appeared on the ABC program "Good Morning America" along with his mother. The two baked holiday cookies on the air.

"For me, it's just certain things happen in life and you've got to move forward," he said on the show. "Through everything I'm just focused on family and preparing for basketball. Basketball has always been something I've taken really serious and I continue to do that and I'm just moving forward."
