Kim Kardashian files for divorce from Kris Humphries after 2 months

10/31/2011 by Corinne Heller

Kim Kardashian has filed for divorce from Kris Humphries, just 72 days after their wedding.

It has been reported for weeks that the two were having marital problems. Kardashian, 31, filed for divorce at a Los Angeles court on Monday, October 31, which she also listed as the date of the pair's separation, according to legal papers obtained by OnTheRedCarpet.com.

She cites "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split. This was Kardashian's second marriage. She and Humphries, 26, have no children.

"After careful consideration, I have decided to end my marriage," Kardashian said in a statement carried by E! Entertainment Television, which airs her reality show, "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" and its spin-offs. "I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things don't work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best."

Humphries, a basketball player, has not commented publicly. The website TMZ quoted him as saying in a statement: "I'm committed to this marriage and everything this covenant represents. I love my wife and am devastated to learn she filed for divorce ... I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make it work."

Kardashian and Humphries, a basketball player, began dating in late 2010 and announced their engagement in May. The reality star was previously married to music producer Damon Thomas. The two wed in 2000, when she was 19 years old, and divorced in 2004.

The wedding of Kardashian and Humphries took place on August 20 under tight security at a $20 million estate near Santa Barbara. More than 500 people, including celebrities, attended the highly-publicized event.

The wedding was filmed for the E! special "Kim's Fairytale Wedding: A Kardashian Event," which aired earlier this month.

"Thank God for family. We are strong and we will only become closer! I love YOU," Kardashian's sister Khloe, who was seen butting heads with Humphries in the program, Tweeted on Monday.

She also said on her website: "I just want to thank all of our amazing fans for your unconditional love and support. My sister is going through a very difficult time and your kindness right now means the world to all of us. Kim, we love you more than anything." Kardashian's sister Kourtney also voiced her support.

"Our sister is going through a difficult time but we're a close family and are sticking together like always. We appreciate everyone's kindness and support," she Tweeted. "@KimKardashian, we love you."

Television personality Ryan Seacrest, who produces the Kardashian shows, had said on his Twitter page earlier in the day: "@kimkardashian is filing for divorce this morning."
