Kim Kardashian dishes about buying Elizabeth Taylor bracelets at jewelry auction
Kim Kardashian often admitted being a huge fan of Elizabeth Taylor and the actress' vast collection of jewelry and now, Kardashian owns a few of Taylor's prized jewels.
The reality star reportedly bought a set of Lorraine Schwartz jade bangles for $64,000 at an auction of Taylor's jewelry at Christie's auction house on December 13. The actress' jewels sold for a record-setting $115 million.
"Elizabeth Taylor was an idol of mine and I'm honored to now own something from her collection," Kardashian told Us Weekly. "The Lorraine Schwartz jade bracelets are special because jade transfers energy, so I will cherish these bracelets with her energy in them for the rest of my life!"
Part of the proceeds will go to The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation, which she established in 1991 to help people living with AIDS.
Taylor amassed one of the foremost jewelry collections in the world, including a 33.19 carat diamond ring and a 16th century pear-shaped pearl from one of her seven husbands, Richard Burton. He purchased it for Taylor in 1969 as a Valentine's Day gift.
Kardashian was one of the last people to interview Taylor before her death on March 23. The reality star spoke with Taylor for Harper's Bazaar magazine where Kardashian asked Taylor about her infamous diamonds as well as her fragrance White Diamonds.
"Size does matter, but so does the size of the emotion behind it," Taylor said of one of her favorite jewels, the 33.19 Krupp diamond.
On the topic of her fragrance, Taylor said, "I always wanted to have a fragrance, and I always wanted to be able to connect with people in ways other than through film. Fragrance is an incredibly intimate thing. It can evoke very specific thoughts or memories and is a little different for each person who wears it. I also think it's the most accessible luxury."
The Hollywood film legend died of congestive heart failure at age 79 on March 23, and was laid to rest a day later at a private memorial service at Forest Lawn Cemetery near Los Angeles. Taylor became as famous for her love affairs as she was for her movie roles in films like "Cleopatra" and "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" She was married eight times to seven husbands.
