Khloe Kardashian exits 'X Factor,' Mario Lopez returns as host (Poll)
Mario Lopez will return to host "The X Factor" for season 3, while Khloe Kardashian Odom will not, OTRC.com has learned.
Odom has not commented. She and Lopez both joined the the singing contest show last year as co-hosts. It marked her first TV hosting gig. Earlier this year, unconfirmed reports had said Odom would not return to the series. She and FOX had not commented about the rumors at the time.
"Khloe Kardashian will not be returning to host 'The X Factor," a show spokesperson told OTRC.com on Monday, April 22. "We really enjoyed working with her and wish her all the best in her future endeavors."
Lopez, who rose to fame with the teen comedy series "Saved By The Ball," has worked as a presenter of the syndicated entertainment show "Extra" since 2007. FOX announced in a statement on Monday that he "will return as the host of 'The X Factor.'"
"I'm looking forward to returning to 'The X Factor' team," Lopez said in the statement. "We're coming back stronger and better than ever and I'm excited to check out all the new talent."
No decisions about a possible replacement for Odom have been made and Lopez remains the sole host of the show, OTRC.com has learned.
Co-judge Simon Cowell was quoted as saying he is "thrilled" about Lopez's return to the show, which he launched on FOX after leaving "American Idol" in 2010 after nine seasons. Both shows are based on UK versions.
"The X Factor" debuted on FOX in the United States in 2011 and airs at the same times as "American Idol" during the fall, when the latter show is on hiatus. The most recent second season of "The X Favtor" starred Cowell, record executive L.A. Reid and pop stars Demi Lovato and Britney Spears as judges. Reid and Spears will not return for season 3, while FOX said in March that Lovato will reprise her role as a judge.
"Hosting a live show and keeping the judges -- especially Demi -- in line, is not an easy job, but Mario is a pro and we are glad he's coming back," Cowell said.
The finale of season 2 of "The X Factor" aired in December. Country singer Tate Stevens was deemed the winner. Auditions for season 3 of "The X Factor" are currently underway. The show returns this fall.
