Kevin Smith: I lost 65 pounds (Video)

02/09/2011 by Corinne Heller

Kevin Smith says he has lost 65 pounds, almost a year after he was booted off a Southwest flight for allegedly being unable to fit in his seat.

The hefty 40-year-old director of films such as "Clerks," also known for his movie character "Silent Bob," slammed the airline on his Twitter page following the February 2010 incident. He has more than 1.7 million followers. Southwest later called him to apologize and gave him a refund.

"I've spent most of my life Yo-Yoing in terms of weight," Smith said on "The Joy Behar Show" on the cable network HLN recently. "I feel mixed feelings about losing the weight. I sympathize far more with heavier people than I ever will with thin. I'll never be thin."

"Let's be honest, I've lost 65 pounds but nobody's going, 'I'm going to sleep with you,'" he joked.

Smith did not specify how much he currently weighs.

Southwest dictates that passengers must purchase a second seat if they are unable to fit into one. Smith says he was able to buckle his seat belt and put his armrests down.

"They still pulled me off the plane for a reason they still, to this day, never made clear," he added. "First they said, 'The pilot said you were too heavy' and I was like, 'The pilot can't even see me.' I felt at that moment, I was like, you know what, I'll lose the weight but I'm not putting on thinner clothes."

In December, Smith ranted about another airline mishap, saying Virgin America prohibited him, his wife and "Clerks" co-star and friend Jason Mewes from boarding a flight because they arrived at the gate too close to take-off time.
