Kelly Ripa: husband Mark Consuelos used to be a stripper
Actors have worked plenty of odd jobs on the path to fame and Kelly Ripa isn't afraid to open up about her husband's unique path.
In an interview with George Wayne, set to appear in the June issue of Vanity Fair magazine, the "Live! With Kelly" morning talk show host confirmed that her husband Mark Consuelos, 41, was once a stripper.
Wayne brought up the actor's past, "I found out in the National Enquirer that he was once a go-go boy, a male stripper."
"He was," Ripa responded, according to Hollywood News. "A lot of hot guys in Hollywood have done that. He was straight out of college, and he went to Notre Dame and finished his degree at the University of South Florida. So, there he was in South Florida, he's looking to break into show business, so he started off as a roadie to a group of these guys, and then they talked him into stripping."
Ripa currently hosts "Live! With Kelly," solo after Regis Philbin's departure from the morning talk show last year. Consuelos often serves as a guest co-host on the show, but Ripa insists that her husband would never take on the job permanently.
"No one would make me happier than Mark, but he values our marriage and he says that he doesn't see how we could stay married and both do that show."
According to Us Weekly, frontrunners for the position as Ripa's co-host include Josh Groban, Jerry O'Connell and Nick Lachey.
Ripa and Consuelos, who met on the set of "All My Children," teamed up to produce a documentary series about cheerleading called "CHEER" for CMT, which is slated to debut in September.
According to a statement from the network, the show will be a one-hour, six-episode series and the couple will serve as executive producers on the show through their company Milojo Productions. "CHEER" will document a hard-driving coach named Patty Ann Romero and her cheerleading team on their journey to world cheerleading championships.
Ripa played Hayley Vaughan on "All My Children" between 1990 and 2001. Ripa began acting on "All My Children" when she was 19 as Hayley Vaughan. On the set she met Mark Consuelos, who played her on-screen love interest, Mateo, in 1995. The two married in 1996 and are parents to sons Michael, 14, and Joaquin, 9 and daughter Lola, 10.
The couple also served as executive producers on the reality series "Dirty Soap," which chronicled the lives of soap opera actors.
In September, the two talked about what it was like to work with each other on projects and acting. Check out the interview below.
