Kelly Ripa to announce her permanent 'LIVE!' co-host on September 4
Kelly Ripa will soon have a permanent co-host sitting next to her every morning on "LIVE!"
It was announced on August 20 that the co-host will be revealed on September 4 when they join Ripa in the "LIVE!" studio for their first official appearance on the show as the permanent co-host. The name of the program will also change to accommodate the new co-host's name.
Regis Philbin bid farewell to his longtime ABC daytime talk show "LIVE! with Regis and Kelly" on November 18, 2011, after serving as a host more than 28 years. Ripa first joined as co-host in 2001, replacing Philbin's longtime co-host Kathy Lee Gifford, who left the series in 2000.
Since Philbin's departure, 59 different men have co-hosted the show with Ripa including Nick Lachey, Neil Patrick Harris, Seth Meyers, Mario Lopez, Anderson Cooper, Michael Strahan and Jerry Seinfeld. Ripa's husband Mark Consuelos has also filled in as co-host several times since Philbin left.
The statement about the announcement said that one of the previous guest co-hosts has been tapped to permanently join Ripa as a co-host.
Ripa is set to kick off a new season of "LIVE!" on Monday, September 3, hosting solo for the first time. The following day will mark the first day for the new co-host team.
Guests for the September 4 show will include "Homeland" actress Claire Danes and recent "American Idol" winner Phillip Phillips, who will be making his "LIVE!" performance debut.
In June, the show won two Daytime Emmys for Outstanding Talk Show-Entertainment and Outstanding Talk Show Host.
