Kellie Pickler talks to Ellen DeGeneres about getting head shaved
Kellie Pickler recently opened up about getting her head shaved in solidarity with her best friend, Summer Miller, who was diagnosed with breast cancer.
The 26-year-old singer and former "American Idol" contestant told Ellen DeGeneres on her talk show on Friday, September 14, that in the end "it's just hair." The interview can be seen here.
Miller was diagnosed with breast cancer in June and according to Pickler, she is currently undergoing chemotherapy.
She just started chemo last week," Pickler told DeGeneres. "She's doing good. It's hard, it's hard on your body, it's hard on your mind. It's just hard. It's not an easy thing to go through. But she's a strong woman and she's handled it with such grace."
The singer also told DeGeneres that she considers Miller a big sister and explained the two made a pact to shave their heads.
"When Summer was diagnosed with breast cancer back in June we made a pact that we'd shave our heads together," she said. "I think that the last thing you want anyone you that you love to feel like is that they're ... you don't want them to walk through the valley alone. I think it's important to have a cancer buddy I guess you can say. That's what everyone has been calling us. Cancer buddies."
The singer said she actually went first when they went to go shave their heads and Miller joked that she decided not to go through with it and tried to run away.
"I tackled her," Pickler said with a smile.
Pickler also revealed that her grandmother, who the singer said, "was the woman that I called mom," died the morning after she was diagnosed with cancer.
Pickler came in sixth place on "American Idol" during the FOX singing contest show's fifth season in 2006. She has since released three albums and several hit singles, such as "Best Days of Your Life" in 2008.
In January 2011 she eloped with fiance and songwriter Kyle Jacobs in a Antigua.
