John Mayer has confirmed his recent reported breakup with fellow singer Katy Perry, telling Ellen DeGeneres on her talk show that "coupling is a tricky thing."

The 35-year-old and Perry, 28, had largely kept out of the spotlight while dating over the past seven months but had attended several public events together, such as President Barack Obama's inauguration. On a recent episode of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," the talk show host old Mayer that she last saw him was at the Grammys, when he and Perry sat in the same row as her and wife Portia de Rossi.

The famous music couple has reportedly parted ways after dating on and off for at least seven months, People magazine quoted a source as saying on Tuesday, March 19. Spokespeople for Perry, 28, and Mayer, 35, had no immediate comment.

John Mayer says he was a "jerk" with regard to his past relationships and that he has changed, months after he began a new romance with fellow pop star Katy Perry.

Mayer, 35, made his comments in an interview with the CBS show "Sunday Morning" that is set to air on February 10 at 9 a.m. ET. According to a network statement, he also opens up about his current relationship with Perry, 28, and his vocal cord surgery last year, which forced him to cancel a tour and take a break from music.
