Katy Perry recently talked to OnTheRedCarpet.com about her upcoming concert documentary "Katy Perry: Part of Me 3D," and revealed that when it comes to religion, God still has a presence in her life. "I don't go to one particular church," the 27-year-old said. "I'm open to the idea. It's just I haven't been able to in the past few years. But you know what? God is still inside of me and I still talk to Him every day." Perry was born Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson in central California and her parents are evangelical Christian pastors. The singer received criticism from religious sectors for songs such as "Ur So Gay" and "I Kissed a Girl," which depict homosexual and bisexual scenarios. Her first studio album, "Katy Hudson," was released in 2001 and marks the singer's only gospel record before she switched over to pop in 2008, releasing what would become a hit album, "One of the Boys." Perry's documentary, "Katy Perry: Part of Me 3D," is set for release on July 5. The film includes footage from Perry's religious past and showcases her whirlwind rise to fame. The documentary also includes details about her high-profile separation from comedian Russell Brand, which occurred while the performer was in the middle of a worldwide tour. "Well, it didn't necessarily make me feel excited to go out and dance," Perry said about her personal turmoil. "But it is real life." "I think that it's important for people to see that and for young people, especially, to see that. Its okay if they have problems or obstacles," she added. "They don't have to be born with money, they don't have to be born fromsomething, knowing something. They don't have to go out and purchase something in order to be what they want to be - they just have to have that seed and that idea and that dream and go for it and work hard for it." Perry is an eight-time Grammy Award nominee, has released two successful studio albums and has sold 74.6 million digital tracks worldwide. The flourishing performer explained how she understands how integral her fans are in her success. "I can't lose that connection - that would be the death of me," Perry said. "I think people - I'm a real people person - I love people. And the more, the merrier to me. But I know the reason why I exist is because of the people, not because there's little kitty cats out there buying my records." Perry's third studio album, the 2010 record "Teenage Dream," spurred six chart-topping hits over the past two years. Her recent "California Dreams" tour grossed $59.5 million with 124 shows. The pop singer released the music video for her newest single, "Wide Awake" on June 19. In the song, which is purportedly about Brand, Perry sings: "I'm wide awake. I was in the dark, I was falling hard with an open heart. How did I read the stars so wrong. I was dreaming for so long. I wish I knew then what I know now. I wouldn't dive in, I wouldn't bow down."
