Katy Perry gets flirty with NFL quarterback Cam Newton, dedicates song to Tim Tebow
A newly single Katy Perry took the stage at the DIRECTV Super Saturday Night on February 4, but before that, the singer got a little flirty at the Associated Press' NFL Awards.
Perry was a presenter at the ceremony and while posing for a photo with Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton -- who won the award that night for Offensive Rookie of the Year -- she said, "You'll be the first straight man I've had a photo with in a long time, so live up to it."
"I am," Newton replied, according to the Associated Press, with a big smile on his face.
The singer recently split from husband Russell Brand. The 36-year-old comedian cited "irreconcilable differences" in the documents, which were filed in a Los Angeles Superior Court on December 30. The couple had no children together.
Brand issued a statement the day he filed for divorce from his wife of 14 months, telling the Associated Press, "Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends."
Perry, 27, and Brand were married on October 23, 2010 in a traditional Hindu ceremony in Rajasthan, India, where Brand also proposed to the singer. The two began dating in September 2009 after the singer performed on the MTV Video Music Awards that were hosted by Brand.
After her husband filed for divorce, the singer made her first U.S. public appearance on January 27. She co-hosted the opening of the 1 OAK club at the Mirage hotel in Las Vegas.
Later in the evening, Perry performed a nine-song set at the DIRECT TV Super Saturday Night party hosted by Mark Cuban and Peyton Manning.
According to People magazine, Perry told the crowd, "This one goes out to Tim Tebow," before performing her single "Peacock." Tebow is the quarterback for the Denver Broncos.
Perry is next set to perform at the 2012 Grammy Awards, which will take place in Los Angeles on February 12 at 8 p.m. ET and air on CBS. The singer is also set to perform on February 10 at the MusiCares Person of the Year Ceremony, which will pay tribute to Paul McCartney and feature other performers such as Tony Bennett, Coldplay and Neil Young.
