Katy Perry debuts new single, reportedly splits from Robert Ackroyd
Katy Perry took to the stage to debut a new single at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards on May 20 called "Wide Awake."
The song, which can be heard below, talks about heart break. A lyric video was released on YouTube on May 21 and shows the lyrics to the song along a Facebook timeline.
"I'm wide awake. I was in the dark, I was falling hard with an open heart," Perry sings in the song. "How did I read the stars so wrong. I was dreaming for so long. I wish I knew then what I know now. I wouldn't dive in, I wouldn't bow down."
Perry, who showed off dark purple locks, attended the ceremony in Las Vegas with her grandmother. She won the Spotlight Award. The singer has reportedly split from boyfriend Robert Ackroyd.
Us Weekly quotes a source close to Perry who claims the singer's relationship with the Florence + the Machine guitarist was not "that serious" and that Perry was the one who broke things off.
The two had been linked since the 27-year-old pop star was photographed at Coachella in Indio, California in April. Perry never confirmed she was dating the musician.
Perry split from husband Russell Brand late last year. The British comedian cited "irreconcilable differences" in the documents, which were filed in a Los Angeles Superior Court on December 30, 2011. The couple had no children together.
