(AP Photo/Peter Kramer)Newlyweds Katy Perry and Russell Brand got a unique gift from the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) on Friday: A young bull, or a bullock, named after Brand.

According to Reuters, the bull was given as a gift by PETA India and Anmial Rahat, which provides free aid to animals in the country where the couple wed last week. "Russell the celebrity and Russell the bullock have something in common: they are both very handsome fellows," said PETA India member Poorva Joshipura.

Brand has long been associated with animal rights, in fact the comedian was named "sexiest vegetarian alive" by the UK branch of PETA in 2007 and made the top ten list in the US in 2010.

"The gift of a namesake is also fitting because just as Russell Brand embarks on his new life as a married man, Russell the bullock has also been given a new lease on lifethe heavy loads he once pulled have been lifted from his shoulders for good," Joshipura told the wire service.

"Russell Brand and Katy Perry are overjoyed to confirm that they were pronounced Mr. and Mrs. Brand on Saturday, October 23," Us Weekly magazine, which carried the report, quoted the couple as saying in a statement, confirming their marriage.

"The very private and spiritual ceremony, attended by the couples' closest family and friends was performed by a Christian minister and longtime friend of the Hudson Family," it said. "The backdrop was the inspirational and majestic countryside of Northern India."

Perry, an American, chart-topping pop singer and Brand, a 35-year-old British actor and comedian, wore traditional Indian clothing to the ceremony. Camels, elephants and horses formed part of the wedding procession and the animals were accompanied by Indian dancers and musicians. Local officials are currently investigating whether noise or disturbance laws were broken during the celebration.

Brand, who proposed to Perry in India on New Year's Eve 2009, said earlier this month on The Howard Stern Show that Perry planned most of the wedding and that they split the cost of the affair.
