Katy Perry, John Mayer break up?

02/26/2014 by Joseph Apodaca

Katy Perry and John Mayer's romance has come to an end, according to a report.

E! News reported early on Wednesday, Feb. 26, that the two singers have called it quits on their relationship after nearly two years of on-and-off dating, citing "a source close to the pair."

Neither Perry nor Mayer have released a statement regarding the breakup report, nor have they made mentions of it on their respective social media platforms. The two, as of press time, continue to follow each other on Twitter.

In December 2013, Perry starred in Mayer's music video for the song "Who You Love," a single off of his current album "Paradise Valley." The couple sat down for a rare joint interview with ABC's "Good Morning America" to discuss the collaboration and whether or not Mayer cared about the scrutiny he would face for selecting Perry for the track.

"For me it had to be about, and it always has really been about, the song," Mayer said. "If the song is great, you're sort of in a bubble of authenticity, I think, and if the performance is great, which she gave an incredible performance, you know it's a pretty big moving target to be a couple and have a song, but there's an authenticity to it when you hear it, you just stop thinking about it."

This is not the first time Perry and Mayer's relationship has hit a rough patch. In April 2013, Mayer confirmed on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" that he and Perry were not dating at the time, following reports, telling the host that "coupling is a tricky thing."

"Listen, it was a very private relationship going in, it was a private relationship during and it's a private relationship still and I kind of understand asking the question based on some previous answers I have given but I finally learned how to put the wall between one thing and the other," Mayer told DeGeneres.
