Katie Holmes to guest star on 'How I Met Your Mother' (Spoilers)
Katie Holmes is set to play, as Barney Stinson would put it, a legendary role on "How I Met Your Mother."
The actress will reportedly play the "slutty pumpkin," a character that was first mentioned on the series' first season in 2005 but never revealed, according to the Vulture blog.
The previously mentioned pumpkin hooked up with the series lead character, Ted Mosby, in 2001, prior to when the episode took place. Ted liked the girl but apparently lost her number, so he waited at the same Halloween party every year dressed in the same costume -- a hanging chad (a reference to the 2000 Presidential election) -- hoping the "slutty pumpkin" would return.
At the end of the episode, Ted finally gave up his search for the elusive pumpkin.
"Katie is a lovely and talented actress, which is why we've saved for her perhaps the most classily named character in our show's history," series co-creator, Craig Thomas, told Vulture. Thomas added that the role was "literally six seasons in the making."
It is not yet known when Holmes episode will air.
Holmes recently appeared in the horror movie "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark." Guy Pearce co-starred in the film, which was scripted by "Pan's Labyrinth" writer/director Guillermo del Toro. Her next role is alongside Channing Tatum and Al Pacino in "Son of No One," which hits theaters on November 4.
She also stars with Adam Sandler in the comedy "Jack and Jill," where Sandler plays a pair of fraternal twins -- one boy and one girl -- due out on November 11.
