Katie Holmes forgets lines in Broadway play, recalls dreaded moment (Video)

Katie Holmes recently experienced something all stage actors dread -- during a Broadway performance, she forgot her lines.

The 34-year-old actress began starring in the dark comedy play "Dead Accounts" in November. She plays a Cincinnati women who is trying to piece her life back together and has a scene where she makes a "defiant speech about Wall Street greed," according to People magazine. The play also stars Josh Hamilton and Judy Greer.

"A couple of weeks ago I had the moment that I'd been dreading," Holmes said during a recent interview on CBS' "Late Show with David Letterman." "I have this kind of big speech in the second act and it's really important 'cause it kind of goes along with the theme of the show and I said the first line and I'm looking at Judy Greer and I'm supposed to be, like, you know, angry with her, and then, the second line, I didn't remember."

"And I didn't remember the third one and I just looked at her like 'aaaw,'" she said, staring wide-eyed. "And she looked at me like [confused look] and so I just started & obviously, I know what the point of it is, so I kind of made my way there ... it felt like a good hour [had passed]." The "Dawson's Creek" alum and ex-wife of Tom Cruise made her Broadway debut in 2008, playing Ann in a revival of Arthur Miller's "All My Sons" alongside Dianne Wiest and John Lithgow.

"Dead Accounts" is a five-character production from Theresa Rebeck, creator of NBC's musical drama series "Smash." The play is directed by three-time Tony Award winner Jack O'Brien.

Norbert Leo Butz, formerly of the Broadway musicals "Rent" and "Wicked," plays Holmes' character's brother, Jack, who returns home unexpectedly, without his wife and with a whole lot of money, and causes some family drama. Josh Hamilton plays his friend and her love interest.
