Katie Holmes debuts Holmes & Yang collection at Fashion Week (Photo)
Katie Holmes recently made her debut at New York's Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, showcasing her fashion label Holmes & Yang's Spring 2013 collection.
The 33-year-old actress and design partner and stylist, Jeanne Yang, appeared with 14 models wearing outfits from the line and standing and sitting on a platform. There was no runway show.
Homes and Yang wore black leather jackets, white tops and black skinny pants. The models showcased looks such as a bright red blazer over a black mini skirt and cream top with a red, hand-painted spider-like print. The design was seen in other pieces as well, such as on short cream and black dresses and a black over-the-knee skirt.
Another model wore a black leather camisole and an olive green, button-up maxi skirt. One woman wore a light blue retro-style dress with black straps. The models also showcased stiletto sandals, some with multi-colored straps (view the collection here).
"We spent a little time getting to know them and finding the right piece that really matched their personality," Women's Wear Daily (WWD) quoted Holmes as saying, adding that before the door opened, she thanked the models and said: "You're all beautiful."
Bobbi Brown did makeup for the show, People magazine said. The artist recently signed Holmes as her first celebrity spokeswoman.
Other celebrities who recently showcased their own new designs during New York Fashion Week include Avril Lavigne, who debuted her new Abbey Dawn collection (and her edgy, shaved haircut) at the Manhattan Pavilion, and Victoria Beckham, who showed her own Spring/Summer 2013 line at the New York Public Library on September 10.
Holmes and Yang launched the fashion line Holmes & Yang in the Fall of 2009. Their Fall 2012 collection was made available at Barneys in New York City and was inspired by Diane Keaton. The line includes camisoles, suits, gowns and separates. Pieces range from $325 to thousands of dollars.
In April 2011, Tom Cruise's eldest daughter, Isabella "Bella" Cruise, joined Holmes & Yang as an apprentice. She reportedly stopped working with Holmes after she filed for divorce from Cruise on June 29.
