Kate Winslet's life saved by Guy Pearce
Guy Pearce says he recently saved Kate Winslet's life.
The 43-year-old actor and Winslet, 35, were filming a scene for their new HBO miniseries "Mildred Pierce." Pearce was driving a 1929 Cord vehicle with "heavy steering and awkward gears," while the actress sat in the passenger seat.
"We'd finished a take, and a van came onto the road that we were on without seeing us," Pearce told People magazine, which carried the report. "We both had to sort of swerve to get out of each other's way ... and I thought ... wow!"
In "Mildred Pierce," which premiered on Sunday, March 27, Winslet plays the title character, a divorced, single mother who decides to open a restaurant business.
Her new business venture does not help her strained relationship with her daughter, Veda, played by Evan Rachel Wood of "True Blood" fame. Pearce plays playboy Monty Beragon, Pierce's love interest.
The three stars take it all off in some parts of "Mildred Pierce." Wood had said that Winslet helped her film her first full-frontal nude scene. Winslet appeared naked in the 2008 movie "The Reader." She won her first Oscar for her role.
Pearce is also known for his parts in films such as "Memento" in 2000 and recently, the Oscar-winning movie "The King's Speech."
