Kate Winslet talks learning from divorce and Queen Elizabeth II - Video
Kate Winslet opened up in a recent interview about what she has learned from the time after her divorce from director Sam Mendes and meeting Queen Elizabeth II.
The 37-year-old Oscar-winning actress spoke to Harper's Bazaar U.K. and appears on the cover of the magazine's April 2013 issue, which hits newsstands on March 7.
"I've really learnt a great deal about myself, in the last four years in particular," Winslet told the magazine about the time period since her divorce, according to E! News.
She later added, "I think I can see more clearly now -- about how the pattern of past experiences has shaped who I am, and the characters I have played -- and I'm grateful for that."
Winslet and Mendes married in 2003 and announced their divorce in 2010. The two have a son together. It was Winslet's second marriage. The actress had been previously married to director Jim Threapleton from 1998 to 2001. Winslet and Threapleton have a daughter together.
In December 2012, Winslet married Ned RocknRoll, a nephew of Virgin Group billionaire Richard Branson. The couple had been dating for more a year before their marriage and got engaged over the summer.
"I have so much more material to draw on for work -- rubble, bricks -- and I know I can carry it now," Winslet told Harper's Bazaar U.K. "I'm not going to drop it, and if I do, I'll sift through it. Does that make any sense at all? Probably not."
The actress also spoke to the magazine about meeting Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen awarded Winslet with the Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) in November 2012.
"Oh my God, she looks amazing," Winslet said. "Beautiful skin -- and wonderful thick hair. She looked really well and pretty and fresh, and she was wearing a lovely pale-yellow dress."
