Kate Moss: I had a breakdown after straddling Mark Wahlberg for Calvin Klein
Kate Moss has revealed that she had a breakdown after straddling Mark Wahlberg topless in a 1992 Calvin Klein advertisement.
The 38-year-old British supermodel made her comments in an interview with Vanity Fair magazine.
"I had a nervous breakdown when I was 17 or 18, when I had to go and work with Marky Mark and Herb Ritts," Moss told Vanity Fair for their December issue. "It didn't feel like me at all. I felt really bad straddling this buff guy. I didn't like it. I couldn't get out of bed for two weeks. I thought I was going to die. I went to the doctor and he said, 'I'll give you some Valium,' and Francesca Sorrenti, thank God, said, 'You're not taking that.'"
"I see a 16-year-old now, and to ask her to take her clothes off would feel really weird," Moss said. "But they were like, 'If you don't do it, then we're not going to book you again'. So I'd lock myself in the toilet and cry and then come out and do it.'"
In 2008, Wahlberg also commented on the photo shoot and told Nuts magazine, according to New York magazine that Moss' body type doesn't appeal to him.
"It was OK. I wasn't into the waif thing. She kind of looked like my nephew. I mean she's beautiful - she's a very pretty nephew - but I'm more into curvy women."
Moss was discovered at age 14 and popularized the "heroin chic" look in the 1990s. In recent years, she has designed a clothing line for Topshop and purses for the luxury brand Longchamp.
Despite her "heroin chic" credits, Moss maintains that she never used heroin, but said that she lost weight because she was working constantly and was never provided food at fashion shoots or after returning home late.
"I was thin, but that's because I was doing shows, working really hard. At that time, I was staying at a B and B in Milan, and you'd get home from work and there was no food. You'd get to work in the morning, there was no food. Nobody took you out for lunch when I started," Moss recalled. "Carla Bruni took me out for lunch once. She was really nice. Otherwise, you don't get fed. But I was never anorexic. They knew it wasn't true-otherwise I wouldn't be able to work."
Moss also talked about her three-year relationship with actor Johnny Depp, which began in 1997.
"There's nobody that's ever really been able to take care of me. Johnny did for a bit," Moss told the fashion magazine. "I believed what he said. Like if I said, 'What do I do?' - he'd tell me. And that's what I missed when I left. I really lost that gauge of somebody I could trust. Nightmare. Years and years of crying. Oh, the tears."
Moss married the Kills front man Jamie Hince, 43, on July 1, 2011 at St. Peter's Church in Southrop, in Gloucestershire, England. The pair became engaged in January 2010 and has been together since 2007, when she and fiancé Pete Doherty, also a musician, broke up after two years of dating.
