The royal couple mingled with some of Hollywood's top stars on Saturday night at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Brits to Watch event in Los Angeles.

Kate, formerly known as Kate Middleton and now referred to formally as Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, graced the red carpet in a dress by Alexander McQueen and wore earrings lent to her by Queen Elizabeth II.

Prince William, who appeared in a black tuxedo, joined his wife on the red carpet at the event attended by stars like Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson, Jennifer Lopez, Jason Batman, Jennifer Garner, Kristin Chenoweth and Jack Black.

People magazine reports that the royal couple sat with Nicole Kidman and Barbra Streisand at a table at the event. William serves as the president of BAFTA.

The royal couple landed in Los Angeles on Friday, July 8, 2011 to continue their North American tour. She and William had begun their North America trip in Canada on June 30 (see photos). It is their first overseas trip as a married couple. Kate had never been to the United States before.

Prior to the BAFTA event on Saturday, the royal couple went to Santa Barbara for a charity polo match. William played in the tournament and Kate presented a Tiffany & Co. trophy to his winning team.

Sunday, July 10, is the final date of their U.S. visit. That day, the two plan to meet with kids at the Inner-City Arts in the impoverished area of Skid Row and visit veterans and military families at a job fair in Culver City.
