Kate Beckinsale: I didn't feel attractive until I was 29
Kate Beckinsale, who is set to star in the upcoming "Total Recall" remake, told Allure magazine that she did not feel attractive until she was 29-years-old.
"Feeling attractive didn't come until I was 29 and with [my husband] Len [Wiseman]. Maybe it has to do with not having had a dad," Beckinsale, whose father died when she was 5-years-old, told Allure for their August cover story. "I'd never experienced a father saying, 'Oh, you look good.' If you have a good relationship with your dad, you have a chaperone in your own mind. I love my stepfather, but it's different with a stepfather. I probably waited until I had that feeling with somebody who was so madly attracted to me that I could sort of relax and aim it at him."
Once the 38-year-old British actress found her stride, she felt like the rest of the world caught on - including Esquire magazine, who named her 2009's Sexiest Woman Alive.
"It kind of exploded, and all of a sudden I was the sexiest woman alive," Beckinsale said. "I think the risk of being the sexiest woman alive is that you don't want to ever have sex again. You don't want to wear a bikini again. You want to wear some nice overalls and a trucker's hat. Anyway, you're only that for a year, and then you're done. You're old news. I don't know who it is right now, but it's not me."
Beckinsale is known for the "Underworld" vampire films, including a fourth installment "Underworld: Awakening," which is due in theaters on Jan. 20, 2012. She has also appeared in films like "Pearl Harbor," "Serendipity," "Click" and "Van Helsing."
Beckinsale will next appear in "Total Recall," which sees Colin Farrell take over Arnold Schwarzenegger's role in the 1990 film, as Doug Quaid, a factory worker who suspects his memories may have been implanted and that he is actually a spy. He then finds himself a wanted man.
In the new film, Farrell teams up with sexy freedom fighter Melinda, played by Jessica Biel. They set off to try and change the political system in their country, which is controlled by a fascist president, portrayed by Bryan Cranston. Kate Beckinsale takes on Sharon Stone's old role as Lori, Quaid's wife, who may not be who she seems.
"I think that originally when we were all looking at the script, there were a few nods to the original movie and then I think that it was Len particularly... who was like, 'You know, let's just give them a few little things that they will miss from the original movie," Beckinsale told OnTheRedCarpet.com at San Diego Comic-Con on July 14. "So yes, we have a lady with three boobs and various things. The whole trajectory, it's just conceived very differently."
"Total Recall" is set to be released on August 3. Watch the trailer and Kate Beckinsale's Comic-Con interview below.
