Kat Von D would be forgiven if she cheated, Jesse James says
Jesse James, who cheated on Sandra Bullock before she divorced him last year, says that he would forgive his fiance Kat Von D if she was unfaithful to him.
James, a 42-year-old motorcycle customizer and former host of the Discovery Channel series "Monster Garage," became engaged to the tattoo artist and reality star in January, less than a year after his split from Bullock.
He told Howard Stern on his Sirius XM satellite radio show recently, when asked about the physical aspect of his love life, that he and Von D, 29, connect better than he and Bullock had.
"I'm devoting my life to this chick and she's rad. Man, the way she just gets in my head and makes me feel. Hey, you know what, if she cheated on me, I would forgive her and still love her," he said.
James said that while he and Von D currently do not live together, he has not cheated on her and plans to remain faithful, adding: "I would break up with her if I wanted to be with someone else. I would just go be with that person."
"When I feel comfortable with myself and I'm mentally connected like I am with Kathy, you know, it's something I've never experienced before," he said. "She's more of a match to me on every front."
ABC's "Good Morning America" quoted James as saying that he plans to marry Von D in the summer. He told Stern that no wedding date has been set.
James has been married three times and has three children from previous relationships. He has in recent days talked about his love life in various press interviews to promote his memoir, "American Outlaw."
James and Bullock, 46, married in 2005. The two split in March 2010 amid reports James had been unfaithful, especially with a tattoo model named Michelle "Bombshell" McGee," which he later confirmed. James and Bullock finalized their divorce that June. James told Stern that Von D contacted him last year after he was "persecuted by the media."
"Through all of that, one person reached out to me and sent me a text one night and said, 'Hey, you know, something tells me that your heart was hurting and I want to make sure my friend was okay,'" James said. "We got together and decided, let's meet for dinner. There was definitely a spark and I couldn't wait to see her again."
Von D has said she does not mind critics of her relationship with James and told OnTheRedCarpet.com after the two stepped out together in September: "People are going to say whatever they're going to say. They've criticized every relationship I've ever been in."
Months after the divorce, James closed up his West Coast Choppers motorcycle shop in Southern California, where he had lived with Bullock, and moved permanently to Texas with his three children.
Von D runs a tattoo parlor in Los Angeles but James says that she plans on moving to his compound outside of Austin eventually and in the meantime, he's building her a studio on the property.
Bullock lives in New Orleans with her adopted son Louis, who the couple brought home in January 2010. After their split, she announced she would raise him as a single parent.James told Stern that he is not in touch with Bullock and that he did not contact her to let her know he had gotten engaged.
"I don't think I'll ever run into her," he said. "I don't hang out at the same places."
