Kardashian family signs biggest deal in reality TV history, report says
It just got a little harder to keep up with the Kardashians.
The reality TV family has reportedly signed a $40 million deal with the E! Network to continue their hugely popular series, "Keeping up with the Kardashians" and its various spin-off shows.
E! Entertainment announced on Tuesday that they had reached a deal for another three years of the series and while they didn't disclose details, TMZ reported that the deal cost the network at least $40 million, which would make it the biggest deal in reality TV history.
The family stands to make even more money if there are any new spin-off shows. A spokesperson for the cable channel, which is owned by NBC Universal, had no immediate comment.
Sources told the entertainment outlet that the deal includes only existing shows and does not include product endorsements. TMZ also reports that Kim, Khloe, Kourtney, Kris and Bruce Jenner will receive most of the money in equal pay. Meanwhile, the younger siblings - Kendall, Kylie and Rob will receive less money, but equal between them. Scott Disick and Mason have another deal while Lamar Odom has his own package deal which includes "Khloe and Lamar."
The Kardashian shows are produced by Ryan Seacrest Productions. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Seacrest also signed a $30 million deal to continue hosting FOX's "American Idol."
Kim Kardashian has made headlines lately for her rumored relationship with rapper Kanye West. She and West have not confirmed a relationship. His recent single "Theraflu" contains the line, "I fell in love with Kim" and the two have been seen together in public several times over the past few months, which has earned them an online nickname - "Kimye."
Kardashian is going through a divorce after a 72-day marriage to second husband and NBA player Kris Humphries, who starred with her on the recent season of her latest E! reality show, "Kourtney & Kim Take New York."
According to Nielsen, the sixth season of the series averaged 3 million viewers. The seventh season of "Keeping up with the Kardashians" is set to premiere on Sunday, May 20 at 9 p.m. Central on the E! Network.
