Kanye West deposed in Kim Kardashian - Kris Humphries divorce case

11/29/2012 by Corinne Heller

Kim Kardashian and NBA player Kris Humphries are still nowhere near reaching a divorce settlement, more than a year after they wed in a highly-publicized, televised ceremony, while the E! reality star's boyfriend Kanye West and mother Kris Jenner have been deposed in the case.

Kardashian herself has not yet made one, according to the Associated Press, which carried the report on Wednesday. West's deposition subpoena, which calls on him to give a sworn statement, was hidden inside a Nordstrom department store box and left outside his girlfriend's door, the reality star's lawyer, Laura Wasser, had said on August 15.

Wasser said at a hearing in Los Angeles on Wednesday that Kardashian, 31, wants to move on with her life but is "handcuffed" to Humphries because the case is not yet ready for trial, the Associated Press reported, quoting the judge as saying the two must return to court in mid-February to set a date for one so that their 72-day marriage can be dissolved or annulled.

Humphries, 27, is seeking an annulment and claims his marriage to Kardashian was a fraud. His lawyers are trying to obtain records about her E! reality shows and depositions with West, her family and associates to try and prove it.

Kardashian and Humphries wed on Aug. 20, 2011 and had beforehand signed a prenuptial agreement. The ceremony was filmed for the E! special "Kim's Fairytale Wedding: A Kardashian Event." Humphries also appeared on Kardashian's main reality show "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" and the spin-off "Kourtney & Kim Take New York."

The actress filed for divorce after 72 days, on Oct. 31, 2011. Following an online backlash and conspiracy theories about a possible publicity stunt, Kardashian said on her blog a day later: "First and foremost, I married for love. I can't believe I even have to defend this. I would not have spent so much time on something just for a TV show!"

Humphries' lawyer, Marshall Waller, said in August that the matter could require a two-week trial if Humphries keeps pursuing an annulment based on fraud and that he wanted to prove Kardashian had "no intention of proceeding with this marriage" and that it was "basically a contrivance for the benefit of her show and to make money."

He said on Wednesday he needed to be sure he had documents from E! Entertainment and its parent company NBC Universal before deciding the scope of his case, but that he was narrowing it down, the Associated Press reported.

Kardashian and her famous family members, stars of E!'s "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" and its spin-offs, earned $65 million in 2011 and are also known for its slew of branded products. Humphries signed a two-year, $24 million contract with the Brooklyn Nets earlier this year.
