KISS and Motley Crue set to donate $100,000 to Aurora Victim Relief Fund
KISS and Motley Crue are chipping in to help people affected by the July 20 movie theater shooting in Aurora, Colorado.
The bands announced during their concert in Englewood, Colorado on August 8 that they will donate $100,000 to the Aurora Victim Relief Fund.
The fund was established by the Community First Foundation to meet the immediate and long-term needs of the victims of the shooing and their families.
"Following the heartbreaking news of the senseless shootings in Colorado we wanted to do something to help the families and victims," Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue said in a statement. "We bonded together with our tour partners and friends Kiss to donate money, but we also hope it inspires others to do the same, no matter how big or small."
Paul Stanley of KISS added, "The terror these innocent victims of the Aurora massacre must have experienced and the profound loss their families now face is unimaginable. We hope that our small gesture helps inspire others to band together in compassion and financial support for all involved in this unspeakable tragedy."
The shooting took place during a midnight screening of "The Dark Knight Rises" and claimed the lives of 12 people and injured at least 58 others. It marked the deadliest attack in the United States since 2009.
The accused gunman, James Holmes, has been charged with 24 counts of murder and 116 counts of attempted murder. His lawyers claimed during a hearing on August 9, that he is mentally ill. He faces the death penalty.
"The Dark Knight Rises" star Christian Bale visited Aurora, Colorado on July 24 to meet with several people who survived the deadly mass shooting.
"This generous donation to the Aurora Victim Relief Fund will be used to help meet the immediate and long-term needs of the victims and their families," said Marla J. Williams, president and CEO of Community First Foundation. "Gifts like this one remind us that there are so many who care not only in our community but in communities around the country."
Kiss and Motley Crue are currently on a tour together called "THE TOUR" which has 40 dates across the U.S. for the summer. Their next concert is set for Las Vegas on August 11.
