Justin Timberlake releases new music video, 'Mirrors,' pays tribute to grandparents (Video)

03/20/2013 by Daniel Reynolds

His album may be "20/20," but Justin Timberlake is seeing double in his latest video "Mirrors," which he released on Wednesday.

Mirroring the success of "Suit & Tie," the track is the second video from "The 20/20 Experience," Timberlake's ten-track album that came out earlier this week.

Directed by Floria Sigismond, who also helmed the film "The Runaways" starring Kristen Stewart, the eight-minute video juxtaposes scenes of an older couple with a younger couple just beginning its romance.

Recurring symbols such as mirrors, dancing, a ring and a red book with blue binding appear in both sequences, suggesting that the viewer is observing the same relationship across generations.

The 32-year-old singer dedicated the video to his grandparents, William and Sadie Bomar, who were married for 63 years. William passed away last year.

"You're the inspiration for this precious song," Timberlake sings. He appears at the end of the video, clad in black apparel and dancing through a mirror maze. His Christian Louboutin shoes also have a mirrored tip.

The emotional video is similar in tone to his 2002 song "Cry Me a River," which followed the pop star's highly publicized breakup with Britney Spears.

The release of "Mirrors" comes shortly after the revelation that "The 20/20 Experience" will have a second volume.

"I need to clear up a rumor," Timberlake told the audience during Monday night's release party at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles.

The former 'N Sync frontman, who married actress Jessica Biel last fall, went on to reveal that his album's ten tracks, including the hit song "Suit & Tie," were only "the first half of the album."

"Those rumors are true," he said, but has yet to confirm a release date.

Timerlake will go on a North American tour this summer with rapper Jay-Z, as announced in February. There is no confirmation if any of the unreleased tracks will be performed at these concerts.
