Justin Timberlake reacts to Britney Spears report, alleged comment
Justin Timberlake hit the stage on Saturday, February 2, during DirectTV's Super Bowl concert in New Orleans and even though the singer debuted new songs and performed his single "Suit & Tie" live, it was a comment he allegedly made before performing "Cry Me A River" that made headlines.
Several outlets including E! News reported that Timberlake told the crowd during stage banter, "Sometimes in life, you think you found the one ... but then one day you find out she is just some b----."
"Cry Me a River," Timberlake's hit single from his 2002 debut studio album "Justified," has long been rumored to be about Spears, in part because the two called it quits that same year before the album's release and because of a blonde woman in the video for the single who looks somewhat like Spears.
"Ok. I see you. Wouldn't disrespect ANYONE personally. Ever. #Relax #ItsBritneyB---- I do love that saying though*with accent* #Respect," Timberlake Tweeted on February 3.
Timberlake, 32, has stated in the past that he has no ill will toward Spears and has even defended her.
"People think they can say anything and it doesn't matter to people. I'd love to see the people who comment about Britney online say those things to her face, because they couldn't," he told Playboy magazine in 2011 when asked about Spears' critics.
He added, "Also, in Britney's defense, if you pulled up a video I did from 2003, I couldn't do the [expletive] I did then either."
In a 2011 interview with Vanity Fair he said, "I wish her [Spears] the best -- that goes without saying. We haven't spoken in 9 or 10 years."
Timberlake, who married actress Jessica Biel in October, is set to perform at the Grammy Awards on February 10. The singer is a six-time Grammy Award-winner and last performed at the ceremony in 2009.
Timberlake announced last month that his third upcoming studio album "The 20/20 Experience" will be released on March 19. He released the first single from the album "Suit & Tie" with Jay-z on January 14. The new album marks his first record in six years.
