Justin Bieber on Anne Frank: 'Hopefully she would have been a Belieber'

04/14/2013 by Kristina Lopez

Justin Bieber visited the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam on Friday, April 12, and after visiting for more than an hour, he wrote a short message in the guest book.

"Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a belieber," the singer wrote, according to the museum's official Facebook page.

The 19-year-old singer was visiting The Netherlands after he performed a concert in Arnhem on April 13. A museum spokesperson confirmed the visit to ABC News and said "We think he meant it well."

In 1942, Frank and her family hid in a small apartment above a warehouse during the Nazi occupation of World War II until the family was caught and deported. Frank died of typhus in 1945. Her life's story was made famous by the diary she kept during this period. It was later recovered and published after WWII and has become "the most widely read document to emerge from the Holocaust," according to The Associated Press.

The museum's Facebook post generated over a thousand comments with some criticizing the singer.

Bieber has not commented on his visit to the museum or the message he left. The singer has three upcoming concerts in Oslo, Norway.
