Justin Bieber discusses Selena Gomez with Oprah Winfrey (Video)
More than two weeks before Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez reportedly broke up, the 18-year-old male pop star talked about their relationship with Oprah Winfrey in an interview set to air on an episode of her OWN series "Oprah's Next Chapter."
During the show, the first from the program to air in more than 100 countries, Bieber, one of the most popular singers in the world, discussed how he and Gomez, who has her own slew of fans, maintained a relationship amid media scrutiny. The two are constantly followed by paparazzi, who photograph their reported arguments, their dates and even their hospital visits.
"Sometimes it's, you know, we gotta take the back exits and do different things," Bieber told Winfrey. "But I never make her separate from me 'cause I don't want her to ever feel like I'm ashamed of her. Because I feel like ... a lot of guys do that. Especially in the business -- they don't want to be seen with the girl, so they'll make them ride in separate cars and do all that getaway stuff. We get away ... getting away together, at least."
Winfrey spoke to Bieber at a restaurant in Chicago, Illinois on October 24. Following their interview, Bieber performed on the sidewalk of the restaurant for a couple hundred fans. "Me and the Bieber just finished our interview, Good stuff!" Winfrey Tweeted on October 24, along with a photo of herself with the singer. Bieber posted the same photo, with the caption, "Me and @Oprah just swaggin it out."
Bieber then performed a concert in the city. Winfrey, who was backstage, said he was "so impressive."
JUSTIN BIEBER - A 'PHENOMENON'
"In 1993, I did an interview that went live around the world within 24 hours, with Michael Jackson," Winfrey says in another segment set to air during the episode. "Not since then have I done an interview like this -- with Justin Bieber."
"Justin Bieber is a phenomenon for our time and just like Elvis Presley and just like the Beatles and also like Michael Jackson, he has millions of screaming fans all over the world who adore him. But unlike Elvis or the Beatles or Michael Jackson, he is a star for this time because he has social media," she said, citing his 30 million Twitter followers.
Bieber's "Oprah's Next Chapter" interview is set to air on OWN on November 25 at 9 p.m. ET
