Julianne Hough says 'Burlesque' moves tougher than 'Dancing With the Stars'
Julianne Hough has moved on since her days of winning the mirror ball trophy on "Dancing With the Stars" and has been sharing the silver screen with the likes of Cher and Christina Aguilera in "Burlesque".
However, the now triple threat actress/singer/dancer says that her days on "Dancing" were easy compared to her work in film.
"On 'Dancing with the Stars', you learn the dance, you dance the dance on TV, and then you're done," Hough told Reuters. "Burlesque was months of preparation, and each number was shot over and over again, over 16-hour days."
She adds, "When I sang 'Diamonds Are A Girls' Best Friend,' sliding down those beads was probably the coolest thing I've ever done. And the most painful! I had welts on my sides, my legs, my arms and my neck for weeks!"
The 22-year-old says that her experiences on the film not only taught her about the film making process, but also helped her get her bearings as an actress. "On 'Burlesque,' I learned the logistics of filmmaking and figured out my comfort zone," Hough told the wire service. "By the time I shot 'Footloose,' I felt prepared and could focus on the acting."
Hough, who has been dancing competitively since the age of nine, seemed like a natural fit to be cast in the upcoming remake of the 1980s classic "Footloose." She plays April, the love interest opposite "Center Stage 2" star Kenny Wormald, who plays Ren.
Yet the two-time winner of the ABC ballroom dancing show, might have been a little too good of a dancer for the role. "I actually had to, not quite 'dumb down' my dancing, but try not to dance as full out as I usually do," Hough said.
As for her love life, she recently opened up to Ellen Degeneres about boyfriend and "American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest. "Oh my gosh, he's phenomenal," Us Weekly magazine quoted Hough as saying on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" in her most candid interview regarding her relationship with Seacrest. "He's really romantic. He's not even in town, and I got in my car and there are flowers everywhere."
Hough said Seacrest has already met her parents, adding: "Everyone's like, 'Oh, you met the folks!' Both of our folks are like our best friends so when we hang out, it's more like hanging out with friends.'"
"Burlesque" is out in theaters now and "Footloose" is set to be released on April 1, 2011.
