Julianne Hough 'mortified' about blackface controversy, Derek Hough says
Derek Hough talked about his sister Julianne's "Orange is the New Black" costume with blackface makeup and said that Julianne is "mortified" by the backlash.
Derek talked to E! News about the controversy backstage at "Dancing With The Stars" on Monday, Oct. 28. He told the outlet, "She's so apologetic. She's so, so sorry and I just hope that we can all forgive her and move on."
"She's my little baby sister and she's the sweetest thing ever," Derek added. "She is just beyond beside herself."
Julianne appeared at a Halloween party dressed up as black inmate Suzanne "Crazy Eyes" Warren from the Netflix prison drama. Paparazzi photos of the 25-year-old former "Dancing With The Stars" pro dancer popped up online over the weekend.
She later apologized for the costume on Twitter on Oct. 26 and wrote, "I am a huge fan of the show Orange is the New black, actress Uzo Aduba, and the character she has created. It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way. I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize."
