'Judy Moody' tells kids to ditch computer and TV for summer, star Jordana Beatty says
Jordana Beatty stars as fun-loving third grader Judy Moody in "Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer," which hit theaters on June 10.
In the film, Moody creates a series of dares in order to have the most thrilling summer of her life after her parents take an unexpected trip to California, leaving her stranded. Her cool Aunt Opal (Graham) and little brother Stink (Parris Mosteller) join in the adventures. The film is based on Megan McDonald's best-selling book series.
"Basically, it's telling kids to just go out and have the best summer ever instead of staying in front of the computer and TV all day," Beatty told OnTheRedCarpet.com.
"Basically, Judy wants to have the best summer ever with her friends," she said. "But they're going away and so are her parents, so she's left with her brother and her Aunt Opal comes and they're pretty great and she has the best summer ever."
The film also stars former "Family Matters" star Jaleel White, who played Steve Urkel on the long-running ABC show.
Fans of the "Judy Moody" series can look forward to seeing some elements from the book that made it to the big screen.
"Readers [of the books] will definitely recognize different elements like the characters in the movie and her 'me collage' and her collections in her bedroom," Beatty said.
