Joy Behar is set to depart ABC's daytime talk show "The View," it was announced on Thursday, March 7.

Behar, who is the last original cast member of the long-running series aside from co-creator Barbara Walters, is set to leave the show after over 16 years.

"Joy Behar has been instrumental in the success of The View from the very beginning," ABC said in a statement obtained by OTRC.com. "We wish her all the best in this next chapter, and are thrilled that we have her for the remainder of the season."

The 70-year-old host, who is set to finish off the remainder of the current season, is ready to devote some time to her other projects.

"It seemed like the right time," Behar told Deadline in an exclusive interview. "You reach a point when you say to yourself, 'Do I want to keep doing this?' There are other things on my plate I want to do - I've been writing a play, I've been neglecting my standup."

"I do like talk shows, I'm interested in talking to people," she continued. "I want to do an intelligent talk show where you have room to breathe."

The television personality, whose shows on HLN and Current TV are soon coming to an end, has been rumored to be in talks for her own show on CNN. While Behar wouldn't confirm or deny the reports, she told the outlet that she had "a positive meeting" with CNN's Jeff Zucker, and that "CNN would be great place" for her next show.
