Josh Hutcherson talks 'The Hunger Games,' jokes he has 83 wives (Video)
Josh Hutcherson is definitely more popular with the ladies ever since becoming one of the stars of the highly-anticipated film "The Hunger Games."
The 19-year-old actor, who plays Peeta Mellark, one of two love interests of heroine Katniss Everdeen, says he's getting plenty of marriage proposals.
"I've actually married quite a few. I have 83 wives, I think, at this point," Hutcherson told OnTheRedCarpet.com at the film's premiere in Los Angeles Monday, March 12, 2012.
"The Hunger Games" is based on the first book in the trilogy of novels by Suzanne Collins. Everdeen is played by actress Jennifer Lawrence. Everdeen is a young girl who lives in a post-apocalyptic future where a boy and girl from various districts are chosen and taken to a massive area where they must survive and fight to death.
This annual event, dubbed The Hunger Games, takes place in front of cameras, who broadcast their every move to viewers. Everdeen volunteers to be a tribute, or fighter, for her District 12.
Mellark is a baker's son who competes for Everdeen's affections and accompanies her into the 74th annual Hunger Games as the boy chosen to fight from her district.
Hutcherson said he's excited for fans to see the book come to life on the big screen.
"I loved the book so much. To see it all finally come to life and to be with the new cast and put so much work into it, to finally have people come to see it, is very exciting to me," said Hutcherson.
The film also stars Liam Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne, Everdeen's best friend and hunting partner, and Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket, the escort of District 12. "The Hunger Games" film is slated to hit theaters on March 23, 2012.
Hutcherson recently appeared in the film "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" as Vanessa Hudgens' love interest. He has also appeared in the films "Journey to the Center of the Earth," "Bridge to Terbithia," "and the Oscar nominated movie "The Kids Are All Right."
