Joseph Gordon-Levitt cancer comedy '50/50' trailer released
Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen star in the upcoming cancer comedy "50/50," which is slated for release on September 30, 2011.
Summit Entertainment released a trailer on Friday for the film, which is based on screenwriter Will Reisener's real-life experience being diagnosed with cancer in his mid-20s. Watch the trailer here.
The script made the Black List a few years ago and Rogen showed interest in developing it. The project will be produced by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Ben Karlin. Summit Entertainment acquired distribution rights in February 2010.
"It's rare to find a script that has you laughing and crying in equal measure, or a cast and director as perfectly suited to get the tone of this unique and moving film as perfectly right," Erik Feig, Summit's president of production, said in a statement.
The comedy has previously been named "I'm With Cancer" and "Live with It." Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars as the lead and Rogen will play his supportive friend. James McAvoy was originally slated to star in the film but dropped out.
The film also stars Anna Kendrick, Bryce Dallas Howard and Anjelica Huston. It was directed by Jonathan Levine ("The Wackness") and filming took place in Vancouver, Canada.
The release date was moved back a week so that it wouldn't have to compete with a slew of male-friendly features like "Abduction," "Moneyball" and "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island." In its new release date, "50/50" is up against the Anna Faris comedy, "What's Your Number" and the Universal thriller "Dream House."
The film will be Rogen and Gordon-Levitt's first movie together. Gordon-Levitt recently starred in the independent tragicomedy "Hesher," about an eccentric metal fan. Rogen recently voiced an alien in the comedy "Paul" and a praying mantis in "Kung Fu Panda 2," which opened on Thursday.
