During Tuesday night's episode of "The Daily Show," Jon Stewart tackled the gun control discussion that has been happening since the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, on December 14.

The satire news program has been on hiatus since before the tragedy and returned to air earlier this week. At one point, while analyzing if perhaps the media must also be examined for the rise in gun violence in addition to violent video games and films, Stewart pulled out a plastic toy gun.

Stewart pulled out the prop after clips of media pundits like Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck were shown warning about the dangers within America, claiming that religion is under attack and stating that President Obama's re-election signals the end of the country.

"I'm not sure what happened. I blacked out in the middle of that and woke up with an AK in my hands, or whatever this is," Stewart joked. "I'm sure I'll get letters about what this really is -- which is plastic is what it really is."

Stewart then showed clips of NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre talking about creating a national database of mentally ill people and Mike Huckabee saying, "Ultimately we don't have a crime problem, or a gun problem, or even violence problem. What we have is a sin problem."

"We can dance around the issue all we want. We can blame movies, or video games, or the mentally ill, or God," Stewart said after the clips played. "It's a complex problem, and all solutions have to be on the table. But it is time we talk about guns."

The move was similar to when NBC's David Gregory showed a 30-round gun magazine on an episode of "Meet the Press" in late December. Stewart devoted the much of the episode to the issue of gun control as well.
