Johnny Depp of 'Pirates' tested characters on his kids
Johnny Depp, who plays Jack Sparrow in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" films, says he has tested some of his past film characters on his children.
Depp, 47, and girlfriend Vanessa Paradis, 38, have an 11-year-old daughter, Lily-Rose, who will turn and 9-year-old son, Jack.
"I started out secretly testing characters on them to see how the reactions would be," Depp said at a recent press conference at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. "Like, when my daughter was little, we'd be playing Barbies and I'd start doing these voices and finally she just said, 'Stop.'"
"They go and see the movies and basically, I can tell by their reaction if I did all right or not," he added. "They seem to enjoy them so far. I haven't been fired by my kids."
Depp reprises his role in "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," the fourth installment in the Disney film franchise, which also stars Penelope Cruz as Sparrow's love interest and was released on Friday, May 20.
Cruz called "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" "the biggest movie I have done." The film also stars Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards, who is said to have helped inspire the character of Sparrow, He plays the pirate's father, Captain Teague.
